The Idaho State Elks Association is saddened to announce the passing of Dine Wray Smith, Past State President (2005–2006), on September 6, 2025, at the age of 70.
A proud member of Blackfoot Lodge No. 1416 for more than 40 years, Dine dedicated himself to the Elks and his community. Over the years he held numerous officer roles at both the local and state levels, including serving as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler. His leadership, humor, and friendship left a lasting mark on Idaho Elkdom.
Beyond his service, Dine valued family, friendship, and community, and he brought people together in countless ways. An avid oarsman, he shared his love of whitewater rafting for more than three decades, introducing many to the magic of the river. He was known for hosting celebrations of all kinds always with good food, good drink, and, occasionally, a rich cigar. He was also a loyal Denver Broncos fan, steadfast through thick and thin.
In keeping with Dine’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. He encouraged friends to celebrate him “their way.” In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory by cracking a cold beer and doing something kind for someone who wasn’t expecting it.
The Idaho State Elks Association extends its deepest condolences to Dine’s family, friends, and fellow Elks. His legacy of service and fellowship will long be remembered.
